Your headshot is often the first impression a potential client or website visitor has of you.  How are you perceived?  Serious?  Fashionable?  Professional?  Sloppy?  Out of date?  Trendy?  Knowledgeable?  

Your headshot can say a lot of things about you.  Make sure it says the right ones.

Think about the top three words you want an individual to think of when they see your headshot and write them down.  Go ahead, take a minute and think about it.

Now add these two:  Approachable.  Authentic.

As women especially, we want to work with someone we can imagine talking to.  Who looks professional and capable within their industry, but not intimidating. 

So decide what traits best personify the business you're in and communicate those to your photographer. But make sure you select a photographer who will put you at ease, who understands posing (that looks great, but not overly posed!), and who will take the time to get you a headshot that makes you shine.  Authenticity usually comes out in your eyes -- so make sure you work with someone who has a natural eye for helping you communicate what you already know -- that you rock!

I'm Back! -- Baby in Tow | Happy New Year! | Modern Photography St Paul MN

I hope you had a joyful Christmas season (ours went by way too fast) and are enjoying a good start to 2014.  In our household, we've been especially busy enjoying our recent Christmas gift - new baby Tessa Skye, who arrived on November 25th, and came home one day before Thanksgiving.  What a great sense of completion she brings to our family!  We feel beyond blessed, and the big kids are crazy-madly in love with her.

With two shoots last week (babies, both of them!) I'm officially back in the swing of things with studio-life.  Please don't hesitate to get in touch.

I hope that like me, you'll resolve in 2014 to spend time on things that truly matter - family, friends, faith, fresh-starts.  And in our tech-crazed world, that sometimes means setting aside gadgets, technology, entertainment (yes, even our cameras) to be fully in the moment, focused on the here and now.  Enjoy each minute, and consider each day a new beginning.

Autumn Update! | Child and Family Photographer St Paul, MN

Wrapping up the fall shooting season... it has been fun, adventurous, and very very busy!

*Sorry -- not taking any more sessions for the fall season (but booking for mid-January on!)*

Finishing up loads of editing and orders.  Thank you to my amazing clients who shared their family time with me this fall season and let me capture silly kids, exploring families, and new babies (not to mention some really cute outfits!).

Can't wait till I have time (time?!?) to post more, but for now, here's a snippet that I love.  It screams fall and the smiles of carefree, childhood fun.
